what do you guys use for your tort to lay on in their housing? I have a sleeping area that's basically like a wooden dog house with wood floors for my 8 yr old Sulcata that I just adopted from someone that was taking horrible care of it. Just curious if there's anything I can throw in there to make it more comfortable. Thanks in advance.

Hi Shane you have joined a great place for advice from lots of tort experts and What is his name and do you have any pics you can post yet?

Have a look at the care sheet for sulcatas under the Species Specific section it will probably tell you about substrate there. Also have a look at Enclosures section and Beginners Mistakes for rmore ideas. If you follow all advice as best you can then you should have a happy healthy tort for long time and it will save you a fortune in vets fees!

Ask as many questions as you like, everyone is happy to help if they can.

Hello and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum to you and your tortoise.
The sulcata care sheet here recommends coco coir, cypress mulch, orchid bark, additive free top-soil or yard dirt if yours is suitable.
It should be kept moist.
