There are many theories - mating reasons - A way to ID one another? this might make sense since Radiates are not as solitary other grassland torts. - Camouflage?have anyone done any research on why only Radiata, Stars and Geometry tortoise (Psammobates) developed these "radiating" patterns ?
their natural range seems to be a rim around Indian Ocean , (south africa-- Madagascar----india/ sri Lanka/Burma)
This is a newly hatched animal that has been exposed to no light yet. Once it is, this color will fade and normal color will appear. I see babies hatch out like this from time to time, while different not something that sticks for the life of the animal. It almost looks like someone just takes silver spray-paint to the shell, but its all natural until they get sunlight!
I'll take the one at top right, I already have ones like the others! With the owner's permission to share, these Tortoises are housed in Asia. They have to be the most amazing Rads I have ever seen. Thick, yellow banding all over.View attachment 177532
Interested to see how it progresses for you!Just want to share a couple of pictures of this beauty, very rare combination of high yellow/blonde and thick bands, this lil guy is as rare as it gets. What is the most beautiful Rad u have ever encountered?
