have anyone done any research on why only Radiata, Stars and Geometry tortoise (Psammobates) developed these "radiating" patterns ?
their natural range seems to be a rim around Indian Ocean , (south africa-- Madagascar----india/ sri Lanka/Burma)

There are many theories - mating reasons - A way to ID one another? this might make sense since Radiates are not as solitary other grassland torts. - Camouflage?

Hatchlings From a Breeder in Spain........"INCREDIBLE" ! ! ! !
This is a newly hatched animal that has been exposed to no light yet. Once it is, this color will fade and normal color will appear. I see babies hatch out like this from time to time, while different not something that sticks for the life of the animal. It almost looks like someone just takes silver spray-paint to the shell, but its all natural until they get sunlight!

Your right ....and I asked him before sharing those. It does look like some one took Silver Krylon and doused the lil booger.....

Here a few Rads past and present at The Cove'

I have one left studbook Adult female in my collection.....pretty to look at , but nothing beats a RF or a Galap when it comes to a great interaction tortoise.
