I was looking at tanks for my sulcata tortoise. The height of the tank is bugging me a bit. It is 10 inches high. I am going to get a screen lid to place my basking and heat lamp on top. Is 10 inches to low or should I get a tank that is 12 inches? I don't want my sulcata to burn or something

They really shouldn't be in glass tanks at all.. assuming it's glass? How big is the tortoise? There are really good care sheets on here. Have you ever owned one?

Glass tanks are great for hatchlings that still need to be housed indoors. They can be closed up to make beautiful closed chambers.

If you can, find a higher side. It'll give you more room to play around with things. You'll have to experiment with different wattage bulbs till you figure out what wattage will give you the correct basking temp.

My glass tanks are converted into closed chamber, too.

The ultimate way to convert them is to have one tall enough to accommodate the lights INSIDE the chamber, covering the whole thing.
