Curious our Sydney laid 5 eggs this morning. No where near her 4 nesting areas she made. One egg dropped in her habitat as she was leaving it this morning. The other 4 dropped on her way to her favorite basking place.
She cracked one, I didn't keep it because it was leaking. The others I placed in moist sand in a container. Placed that in a reptibator. The temperature set at 86. With humidity at 70 to 80%.
I hope the sand will be okay. That is all I had.
Do I need to cover the eggs or is the reptibator cover enough?
Is sand okay as long as it stays moist? Do you need moisten the sand daily?
If I can get vermiculite is still okay to transfer the eggs?
Lastly do I need to increase the temperature and humidity?

Both African Spur Sulcata. Sydney female,
Squirt is the male. I also have one male Leopard tortoise. They have been mating for 3 years. Sydney laid 4 eggs two years ago. Only one survived, the rest were broken. Sydney never excavated my yard like she did this year..
I had the last set up as well. The egg didn't survive. Turned black inside after 6 weeks. I think, I messed up and I don't want that to happen again. I was told I had 3 females.

If I get the vermiculite tomorrow is to late to move the eggs?
The eggs can be moved anytime as long as you don't turn or rotate them in any way. Gently mark the tops of each egg with a dulled pencil for a reference pint and keep that point facing up the whole time.

You will need to remove them form the sand before hatching so they don't eat it and get impacted.
