Hi All,

As many of you might know I'm a relatively inexperienced tort keeper. I only was lucky enough to stumble upon TFO about 8 months ago when I got my first hatchling. Following everything you all have taught me here, other than a few nervous moments, I have raised what many have told me is an absolutely perfect hatchling. Fortunately I found you all , and my hatchling has been raised without a hitch. Other than what I have seen and learned about on the Web and TFO, I had never seen first hand a pyramided tort, split scute tort, extra scute tort etc. Heck, I had never even met more than one tort at a single time, until now.

Well as things change, this week I have received four more torts. I have now hi marbled cherries, torts with split scutes, torts with extra scutes, torts that are a bit bumpy etc.

It struck me as pretty profound how it is so much more clear to me now, what everyone was talking about all this time. I mean to say, I hold these torts in my hand and you can clearly see and feel where they were raised dry, pyramiding was starting and continuing. Then its a clear difference, all the sudden the shell growth changes to totally smooth, obviously where they were started to be raised correctly. This is true for all four of the torts. It's interesting to see how the pairs interact, they are much more active and outgoing than the hatchling has been. All very interesting to see.

Sorry to carry on, but as the title says, I find this all super cool, lol. I'm like a kid right now, sitting here staring at my torts [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND TIGHTLY-CLOSED EYES]

Hey, It's okay to feel like a kid again. I do it all the time and it'll be two years since I started with hatchlings. It's cool indeed!

Hey Tom. A word of advise/warning is warranted here. As you go about your daily life and share your experiences with your torts with friends and family, soon, you will be contacted by folks wanting to rehome their tortoises to you. Word gets out. Some you will be amazed at how nice they are health wise. Others will be truly hanging on by a thread. Of my 16 tortoises, I searched out 4. All others came to me for their retirement years.

TommyZ your enthusiasm made me smile cause you totally sound like a kid in wonder on Christmas morning. Love it! Thanks for sharing. Would love to see some pics of of your babies added here so we could share in the wonder.
Cowboy Ken made a good point, I am a novice with one tort, but people are always asking me questions now, or showing up at my door with their pet in a carry case wanting me to look it over and go home with them to look at their enclosures etc. it's a very odd feeling and I am always obligated to tell them I only know what I have learned here. I now have a tiny printout of tortoiseforum.org sitting at my front door and recommend it to everyone.
I will say though that I love to see all the reptiles that live around me lol ;)

I just found your posts with "They just arrived". Great pics and they are truly lovely. Saw the split schute in the bathing thread. So cool! Wonder if those splits weaken the shell? Anyone have experience with that?

So nice to hear how thrilled you are. Enjoy it a d your shelled family. There is time to grow up and that's when your dead. So, hold on to that kid like feeling, it's more fun anyway:D.

Hi All,

Thanks Ken, for the words of advice, don't worry though, I'm a good manager of time and resources...just in case though Ken, what's your address and phone number? Lol

Thanks also ev1 for reading. I'll put a few pics below of the newbies, although they're in other threads.

The first three are of Tortellini, my Cherry Hatchling. The next 3 are of my 1.1 Hets. The last 3 are my 1.1 Cherries. All so unique and Super Cool! Lol

And Barb, we've been chatting it up since I joined here, you can probably tell by now, I'm just a big kid [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Yep Barb, I plated it all Wolfgang Puckish for them, and look how they reward me, lmao. I gotta tell ya seeing the group play and how they interact is facinating. I can't wait for quarantine to end so I can put them all together.
