My tort is usually sleeping under substrate, I usually change the substrate every two month.
Q: When I should change the substrate?

Cute little guy. Looks like coco coir (good choice). That's what I use. If you spot clean it after feedings and when you see waste matter, you might not have to change it for years.

My enclosure is about 1(m).40(cm) , and 4-5 cm of coco coir. Yes I clean it every 3 days, and put out dry foods and ... .

I have only changed my substrate once in the past six months. I spot clean when needed. Only reason I changed was to mix the Cyprus mulch with more topsoil.(my two cents)

How cute! I'd love to see mine burrowing.
I use the same and just spot clean every day.
