one hatchling just keeps walking off log. not good.

Remove the log until it gets older then try it again. You could also try piling up the substrate around it is level with the top/sides of log and see if that helps

good point. they live inside there though... love it. might try that with substrate. they are flipping other places too. not just off the log. never really had this problem.
