So yesterday I made an appointment for my eastern hermanns she (now found out thanks to the vet she is a he) wasn't eating or pooping and his neck sores weren't going away. They did a buoyancy test and found him listing to one side. Which then the vet called for x rays and blood work. I was hysterical I was expecting the worse. Turns out he just has pneumonia and got a few shots yesterday since there isn't a broad spectrum antibiotic for tortoises he is on two. Gotta go back next week for his other antibiotic shot. Can't remember for the life of me what its called begins with a d. LOL and the other has to be given every other day via subq shots in his hid side. Thank God my GD is a medical assistant and knows how to give injections. That antibiotic is called fotaz 60mg and has to be kept frozen until administration. The Allentown animal clinic is where I took him it all cost me close to $500 but he is totally worth it. He is my first and my baby. I was told it takes awhile for reptiles to get sick and a long time to heal. He was also given a shot of vitamin A which seems to be one of the vitamins tortoises lack and they told me sweet potatoes and carrots help with that. He seems more active today. All in all it room 3 hours but they staff was more than polite and took great care of squishy I recommend them to anyone in the area. Will be update as the weeks go by. I am just very thankful it wasn't worse. Now the only issue I'm having is the pronouns LOL.

A lot of people here say DO NOT allow the vet to give a vitamin injection.. there are side effects.. if you animal is eating.. feeding them the foods with high Vit A will take care of that..
I am glad to hear he is better today.. keep warm and make sure he keeps eating well.

Ditto with what Laurie said. I wouldn't let them give another vitamin A shot. They should just have let you up the appropriate foods for that. Hopefully he will continue to get better.

He started eating today. And pooped. I made up some diced veggies and put them in ice cube trays in freezer over night. him and my Leos love them. I put apple, sweet potato, yellow pepper, endive, carrots, dandilion. His activity has increased as well. And is taking his shots like a champ. Haven't seen any issues with the vitamin a issues. His boo boos are getting better as well. This is his first illness I am so happy he is doing much better

So happy to hear Squishy is coming round...also, the problem "usually" with vitamin a shots is a dosage issue....so many vets do not know the correct amount of a in comparison to the weight/size/age of a tort so when they offer that injection there can be severe (sometimes fatal results) affects on the tort....but I believe that if your vet is keen on dosage and has had some experience or real training for torts then it can be an alright boost...however, since he is eating I would focus on bumping the vit a foods (I would wait a week or so before I would overload on the a, especially since he was just given that vit injection, you know what I mean?)...but then would bump the vit a in his diet more so on a regular basis...
