Recently found an unknown species to me on the road in my neighborhood and wondering if anyone could help me find out what it is?

I'm in Georgia, I've found box turtles before but this one doesn't look like one to me but I may be wrong

It's just a baby, that's why. We really won't know what kind of box turtle until it starts to develop the pattern on its carapace. Right now I'm thinking either 3 toe or eastern, but will have to wait a year or so to see.

A very warm welcome to the forum.

Check your laws on keeping box turtles because some laws say not to . If he came from the wild that's the place he needs to be . put him back as close to where you found it . We need wild box turtles to carry on the gene pool. We are losing wild box turtles due to habitat destruction . So the more wild babies the better .

In Georgia, it is an Eastern (Terrapene carolina carolina) and they are illegal to possess. I'd let the little one go exactly where you found it.
