It looks like a Slider to me. Not a native species I think.

I am not an expert on these so I will have to leave you to those that are.

Looks like a yellow bellied slider to me. I believe they are native to Alabama and I am not sure what your laws about collecting native turtles.

Ok thank you well I found a site that tells you the laws and such and it's confusing but on the list the yellow bellied slider is not native .

Here is what it says

[
71803aef950980160a366ef8cfc359cf

1. Unlawful to take, capture, kill, or attempt to take, capture or kill, to possess, sell, or trade, or offer to sell or trade without a special

permit, Mississippi DBT, Gopher Tortoise, Alabama Map, Alabama Red Belly, Alligator Snapper, Barbour’s Map or Escanbia Bay Map, Black

Knobbed Sawback & Flattened Musk Turtle.

2. Any native unprotected species, as well as non-native species, may be kept as pets. However, No person, firm or corporation shall import

or cause to be imported, any nonindigenous turtle species for the purpose of propagation.

So I'm not sure if this is true but every time I type in the laws this site pops up

Yes, you do indeed have a Yellow-bellied Slider. Trachemys scripta scripta. The care is identical to its close relative sub-species Red Ear Slider Trachemys scripta elegans.

I believe in your state, they are established in many areas, but are not considered a native species, nor protected species.
