Tortoises have shown themselves to be unreliable when allowed to make choices about what is best for them. Put out a pile of lettuce and a pile of grass clippings and see which one they go for. Likewise, we just had thread about how many tortoise die from eating toxic plants. There are people on this forum that believe the tortoises "know" better.

Or put a tortoise in an outdoor enclosure with a heated night box. Show them the heated area repeatedly day after day, and watch them go park in a corner or under a bush night after night when we know the temperature will drop below freezing.

There are many reasons why a tortoise may choose to hang out in a given area. This doesn't mean the tortoise "knows" what is best.

Also put em back inside there close one.. when then sleep...

God thing about Denmark is the humiditiy is around 40% even inside.. and temp around 25-27C. Unless you have open doors and windows all night..

So it's ok for me if they sleep outside the closed one every now and then..

But have noticed something funny.. Doing the day they go and sleep in there grass..
Most be something build into them from nature side.

2nd pic you can see all the flat grass along the side..

This is true.

It also extends to my own species. My child regularly claims to be "full" after just two bites of the spiced chicken and veggies I just prepared. Then five minutes later she's crushing a bag of Hot Cheetos.

Or like my daughter after two bites: "Did I eat enough to get desert?"
