The new organic top soil I bought has a pine smell to it. Is this ok?

That's the trouble with using store bought soil. One has no way of knowing what is in it. Could be all sorts of toxic stuff they took out of a landfill. Were you planning to use the soil as substrate? I much prefer small grade fir bark.
