My yearling absolutely loves the water. I see bubbles, but not so sure they are all coming from his nose and mouth. This tortoise spends several hours a day laying in his water dish. He spend so much time soaking himself I don't soak him any more. Since I am new to raising sulcatas I wonder if this is normal behavior.
Ive been soaking my sulcata, who is now almost 2 years old, daily for 15 minutes in warm water. She has access to a water bowl 24/7 but never drinks, I think the soaking keeps her hydrated, but sometimes I wonder... She drank from a water dish when she was a baby once or twice but since the daily soakings I naver see it.
Mine do the same thing. If it's hot out she will go down in the water and then stick her whole head in. Otherwise just half her head goes in for a drink. Never seen any bubbles though.
I've never seen the Sulcata's drink .... never. The Deserts do but not out of their dish. They like it when I run the water hose over the garden rock. They wait for it to pool up, find a spot to stick their heads down between the rock and drink. Seems they are under water for 5 mins. I think they prefer drinking that way because it seems natural for them? ...Like its a rain water run off stream or something?
My sulcata does the same thing.. often submerges his whole head. I also love it when he starts splashing water up on himself.. or dirt.. that's cool too.
