Yep. Although Hermanni are a small species of tortoise they are a larger mapping tortoise. Meaning they cover a lot of ground and territory. Thusly elevating the required space to be much larger.Yes. I'm the same way. I didn't even fully appreciate how much room my Hermann's will need. I am very happy I didn't get a species with even more space requirements.
I say find a new girlfriend lol. Here is pretty much the chain of events for acquiring animals in our house.
We decide to look into an animal.
I do the research on animals needs and report to girlfriend what we are going to need.
She gives the okay on getting animal.
I build enclosure for the animal.
Girlfriend goes "Holy crap that is a big cage. Do we really need that?"
Girlfriend grumbles for six months to a year about diminishing space in the house.
Find a new animal to acquire and start process all over again.
And she hasn't seen anything yet. Wait till she sees the building I have planned for the new property. It will be a work shop, kennel, and winter housing for the sulcata. I may even end up living in it myself when she throws me out of the house after she sees the size that I am planning on building this thing.
thats a common issue for a lot of people actually. Invisioning the size of things.I poke a little fun, but she is fantastic. She is totally onboard with good husbandry but I think struggles with seeing the space in her head. A 6'x3'x3' enclosure sounds okay to her until I'm carrying it into the house and she is wondering why the sulcata gets a bigger bedroom than the child.
Yes! With three girls in the house this is a must....make sure you budget for your man cave, in that building...doesn't have to be big, but make it cozy. Add a bathroom...![]()

Room for indoor ponds played a big factor in choosing the house my husband and I bought nine years ago. I'm not sure knows that though. ;-pHere is pretty much the chain of events for acquiring animals in our house.
