Hi everyone. Ive had my tortoise nearly a year now, last week he was scratching the sides if his enclosure and trying to dig so I put in more coco brick to calm him down and give him depth to dig. The last 2 days he has been like this...(see pic) has he hibernated himself? Shall I leave him be? This might seem simple but would hate to do the wrong thing, Im still learning. Thank you for your advice and support in advance 20171022_130948.jpg

Your horsfield will detect the shortening days and cooler temperatures even though it’s kept indoors.

It cannot hibernate properly or safely in your house though. It is too warm. Hibernation requires temperatures steady around 5C/40F

You need to get the temperatures up, the lights bright and to force this guy into some action. You have to convince him summer has returned

Drag him out of bed first thing every morning and soak him in warm water and then place him under his basking lamp with food nearby.

I know I have given you links on the correct care of this species in another thread. Please read them and compare them with your setup.
