Shy African side necked turtle

I have a small (~3in, 2-3yo) African side necked turtle, and while he’s been with me and in his new tank for 2 weeks, he’s still very skittish.

Runs into his hide when I come in the room, isn’t basking, barely eating.

Any tips on helping a turtle adjust? I did rescue him from a bad situation, but he seems stressed beyond normal measures still.

Give him time. He needs to adjust to his new home and that high person coming into eat him. When he figures out his home is safe and you aren't going to eat him, he should settle in better.
