Does anyone else shower with a pet? I think taking baths with a pet would be gross, but my little white Poodle needs to bathe at least twice a week so to save time one day I tried showering her while I showered and she liked it better than a bath by herself. BTW I shower more often than the dog :)

Well one thing to consider is the shampoos and soaps used by people are chemically developed for our skin types and oils. Canine and felines can get harmed by human shampoos. They have different needs for skin cleansing and different oils that cause different reactions if used on them. Sometimes nothing comes of it. Sometimes severe cases of allergens and skin issues can develop on the animal.

I shower with my bird all the time... it's really good for them to have the warm water sprinkling on them. They get to stay in for about five minutes and then they dry off on the towel rack while I use all the soaps and stuff :p

Now on the other hand, when I was young (12ish) I was terrified of taking showers when no one else was home, so I would have my dog in there with me and she would lay on the rug outside the showeer for me. I got over it after a couple of years but she hasn't... If I am home alone and shut the door of the bathroom, she starts scratching on the door and when I open it she runs in and lays on the rug and won't move until I either take a shower, or drag her out :p

She has her own shampoo and conditioner. She stands to the side until I am done and then while my conditioner sits on my hair I take the hand held sprayer and wash her and leave her condotioner on while I rinse mine, then I rinse her. I talk to her while we shower and tell her how pretty she is and she seems to love it. After I wrap her in a towel while I dry off. When she is out of her towel she runs laps around the house then gets brushed.

Can't say I ever have. Sounds like the two of you have a routine down taking turns though. Hey, if it works.

Oh I was waiting for a comment, thanks Jeff, not disappointing!!
We have 2 large dogs and my hubby and I have found showering them your way Angi is the best!! Yes they have their own stuff, but I can really do a great job scrubbing and rinsing. Cept my back kills after the 2 of them. We used to always do our dogs in the tub(Alone!), but this was beats it all, Course then when I let one out, I only do one at a time. they make a huge mess of the bathroom, but as it turns out it actually causes us to have to wipe everything down so it cleans it. SO it all works out!
ANd yes the birds love the shower too!

I've never had a pet that made a good showering buddy. Emrys loves showers, but I only offer them very occasionally. Once every couple of months, at most. Of course, I'm not in there with him!

I will shower with my schnauzer. I only use all natural cruelty free products that are hypo allergenic on my own hair/body because I am allergic to everything. I don't do it often because it's easier to have him groomed but at least twice a year he will come in the shower with me and get hosed down. My lab on the other hand, loves to swim but being bathed is like torture. She always manages to escape and jump on the bed wet when we bath her, so she only gets groomed.
I don't see anything weird about it. My cat that has passed away used to jump in the shower if he could get in the bathroom. :D

Why do you have to bathe her twice a week? Thats not good for her skin. It was cause it to dry out.

@ Lori She is a white Poodle. I get her groomed about every other month, but her white hair gets really dirty and she stinks after a week. Poodles have hair not fur, so they don't shed their hair just gets long and dirty. Now my Rat Terrier only gets a bath about once a month and after I started him on more herbs he does not stink. After getting him on Kahoot's dog food his coat got super soft.

I would post pix but the dog ate my camera cord ;)

I had a cat who would walk into the shower at the far end, to lick the water off the plastic shower curtain. He did not seem to mind getting wet, and when he was done drinking he would walk back out, and 'clean' himself. The first time he did this it sorta was disturbing, but he did it more often than not, and - well - he was the ultimate cool cat. I did not shower him, he did it on his own. Will

We have a white poodle too, & twice a week showers are REALLY bad for dog skin.
One reason she gets 'stinky' so fast is because you are washing her skins natural oils off so often they are over producing.
Once every 2 weeks would be max in my opinion...
Btw, we have cows, chickens & puddles that our poodle loves to play in the droppings, & he gets bathed around once a month & doesn't stink up the house.
Overwashing can lead to allergies, irritations, infections, & as you know, getting stinky faster.

I have a 5mos old yorkie who does not like for me to be in the shower alone he thinks its killing me or something. So when I take showers I have to leave part of the sliding door open so he can keep eye contact with me if I close the door and he can't see or get to me then he will growl.

growing up we gave our 3 min pins their baths by taking them into the shower.

our procedure: mom got in the shower and me or one of my little brothers would hand her dog 1. after being soaped up and rinsed (with dog shampoo) the dog was passed back to us to be toweled off and dog 2 was handed in...then dog 3... after all 3 dogs were out, while we towel dried them my mom would then shower herself to clean up from all the dog hair, lol.

a childhood memory lol.
