Hello everyone,
My name Emma and I am the proud new owner of a dwarf Herman tortoise, Sherlock. :tort: I have joined this forum to make sure I have all the information I need to make sure Sherlock lives a long and happy life. :D One of my main concerns at the minute is the substrate in his enclose. Originally I was using a product from Ikea called Kokosnot, but Sherlock seemed to struggle walking on it so I added Beech chips as a top layer. Is this a decent substrate or do I need get something better?
Thank you and Hello again!! :p

Welcome. Why are you calling it a dwarf Hermann??

Sent from my iphone using TortForum mobile app

The Breeder I bought him from led me to believe that that was what he was. There is no such thing is there?:(

Hello and welcome to the TFO .and where are you from?

Manchester in England. It's been very hot here so me and Sherlock have been having adventures in the garden (keeping a very close eye on him and only for an hour or 2). :D

He is a Testudo Hermanni Hermanni so he is a little smaller than a regular Testudo Hermanni Boettgeri, I think his paper work just says Testudo Hermanni but after a but of research I think he is Hermanni hermanni (he has the key hole pattern on the back of his shell).

I have no idea, but i have never heard of one. Mostly because hermanns are already small, and do not grow large.
