How can one tell that the old shell is being replaced by new one's? or does it just get bigger or does the older shell starts showing age?. Please educate me.

Reason I ask is because some of the scutes of 1 of my Radiated looks older than the other, faded a little and at times I see small white exposed parts at the edges of a scute at the bottom. Did a blood test/poop test recently and all was fine.

Some specimens just have Gary colors. No idea why. But the new growth are the lines on the side that look fresh. Correct ke if I'm wrong.
