Sexing - Are we boys or girls?

Hi. I'm new to this site, and to sexing hermann tortoise.. We've had 1 tort for a year now and just re-homed of a second. We were led to believe they were both the same sex, but I'm not convinced..pictures are attached. Any advice would really be appreciated

first one looks like a female and the second one looks like a male but they be to young to tell

Does appear to be male and female at this stage.

They will not likely do well living together, so I'm hoping they are in separate enclosures.

The substrate in your enclosure tells me you might have gotten some bad advice. If you want tips for improvement, please just ask.

Second one is without a doubt male, it's early to be sure of the first even though it looks to be female.
