Sand

I have a hermann tortoise i love animals i am a vegetarian i love them that much. At christmas i like to but all my pets presants last year i got my tort a grater to grate his foods up as it was easier for him to eat... this year has any1 got any ideas what to get him?

I was thinking a sand pit but wud the sand get stuck up his nose and suffocate him or what? Is it a bad idea?

Hello Kymiie.

Sand is definitely not a good idea as torts eat it and it causes horrible impaction for them. I think it is a cool idea though to get him a little present. I'm guessing your hermans is kept indoors? So why don't you buy a plastic kiddies sandpit, and fill it with organic soil or a good substrate with some hidey holes for him, and he can play outside some days, under your watchful eye due to predators.
