We recently built a box for our tortoises and I was wondering which substrate I could use for it. I was thinking that a sand potting soil mixture was ok for them but any input y’all have would be great.

Hello! Most recommend either coco coir or fine grade orchid bark. Sand is not recommended as it is an impaction risk.

For an outdoor enclosure, plain old dirt from your yard will work fine. That is what they will eventually live on anyway, right?

If you want some "substrate", fine grade orchid bark will work best.
