Safe to eat?

I've read a lot in here that torts like aloe leaves. I've had these succulents growing for years and if I trim off the spiky edges will it be ok to feed? Kind of looks like aloe..

No need to trim the plant. But feed only occasionally as it gives loose stools.

Yvonne do you suggest anything that can firm up his stool? They never seem to be very firm. He's eating mustard greens and collard greens mix and every now and then he'll eat a spring mix. LOVES broccoli but I read to not give it to him that often.
