Here's some pictures of today's rescue. The chew marks are very old, and a good lesson in how the keratin re-grows UNDER the dead bone. You can see it better in person, because I have a hard time with blurry pictures, but look closely on the right side of the carapace. As the tortoise grew, the old dead bone is splitting to make room for the growth going on underneath. You can see under the split some shiney, new keratin:

But the prettiest Russian face I've seen in a while. Too bad he wouldn't come out so you all could see his pretty face:

My latest female wouldn't come out if there was anyone within eye shot. This lasted about 10 days, now she is roaming the pen and climbing everything in site even when I'm sitting in my chair while watching.
