Great news! I was going to offer Physan20 as an antifungal agent I've used with success....as a topical but I would have used Neosporin on his injury too.....

and now you have a happy roomie for the winter!

I'd AVOID using the Physan 20. Its label indicates it's corrosive and blatantly says it's toxic to fish.

I agree with what Maggie has told you. This turtle will be someone's pet for the rest of its life. You can't release it back into the wild.

Don't worry about putting fiberglass over the space. After he has healed it will be good enough to protect him. It takes a very long time, but it will heal satisfactorily.
