Hello all!
Here is Rocky...a beautiful Red foot tortoise. I got it in may 2021. He live in Quebec City.
The first thing I started doing with him is giving him confidence. I think confidence is really important in human relation and its the same thing for reptiles.
I took 1 hour each day (working day) and 3 hours when not working to "workout" and give him confidence.
The morning start with a bath outside his enclosure. Then I put it out and place box and various item in his way. He have to push to box to pass or climb on thing. He walk and climb for 20min to 1h. I ALWAYS watch him and I helped him when he was younger. They learn really fast !
He started to always come toward me when walking and placing his little nose on my hand/arm. He was starting to show affection. Then I started putting it under coverage on my leg. He really like scratching and cuddling in my hand.
Last thing I do is putting him back in his enclosure bath so and can rehydrate himself and then he eat.
Theres 3 things that I found out:
They dont like change of routine.
He eat a lot less during winter season...even if the temp inside didnt really change (-20C outside). But he is still active.
He only dig a hole to sleep since I got him. Even if I put a log or box to hide inside...he prefer to dig..sometime fully under or sometime with is little head in the air. In the morning when I open the light his head came out fully and he slowly start to get out.
I have 1 question if someone can look at the pictures... it look like he got bigger black shell line between the "scute" than picture I saw of other red foot tortoise. Is it pyramiding? The middle orange is pretty flat and dont look like a pyramide... is there something bad with is shell?
Thanks! Have a great day!
