Red Foot Spagnum Moss

Is spagnum moss safe for my Red Foot? The fogger saturates the substrate on the corner where the tube enters the enclosure. I was hoping spagnum moss in a small bowl could soak it up hold humidity and prevent total saturation in that corner

Any recommendations?

No, it can cause impaction and or get tangled inside and out. There also should not be a fogger. If you have a hatchling, it should be in a closed chamber. Older should have wet bottom substrate with dry top layer. Coconut coir on the bottom with orchid bark on top works good for this. When more humidity is needed, you pour warm water in the corners of the enclosure, dampening the bottom layer, keeping top layer dry.

Thanks. 2-1/2 year old
We are working on the next enclosure which will have a homemade closed chamber. Currently limping by with original glass enclosure she came home in a year ago.

The next enclosure is 6’ x 3’ x 2’. Friend is fashioning a bar w hooks for plastic and to properly hang lighting.

Thanks for the reply. No spagnum in the enclosure

Thank you. I took it out right away. It was only in there about 20 minutes. I saw her wanting to eat it and it concerned me. I've seen a TON of red foot enclosures online with it - I was surprised to learn it was harmful. Thank you so much!

People use it. It does a fantastic job of holding in moisture and it's cheap.
I'm glad you found out about the dangers here and not like others do...The hard way.
