Hi;

I adopted a pair of russians from Hoobly over the weekend. Named them Bonnie and Clyde. Both seems pretty healthy. They are eating and seem well taken care of but the Male (who is not full grown yet) is doing some type of Chirping every night...what is this and is this normal for Russians. I have 2 other russians but neither of them do this. But i am new to russians i have only had my russians for like 2 to 3 months. SO asking for advise/help just so i know. LOL

Thanks everyone in advance!

Ive never heard og this but there was a thread about leopard chirping earlier this week. maybe use the search feature and search chirping?

Yeah i saw that, and it seems normal i guess but its just weird. non of my other russians do it. Its a cross between a duck sound and and oink sound its funny. lol

In my 10 years my russians have never chirped, are we talking like cricket chirping? a squeaky sound?

Is like a mix between a ducks quack and an oink. Its funny. He doesnt have a respitory infection. he is eating great. He does it when he is in his hide a box. Its weird. Theres a post about leopards doing it but its a baby and hes not. At first i though he was scratching against the bottom of the cage and it was loud. or that he was trying to mate..but Bonnie is not in the hide with him. Its weird lol

My RTs have made some interesting sounds scraping and scratching against various things. Sometimes it sounds like vocalizations of some kind, but actually isn't. Have you actually seen him do it?

The only time I've ever heard any vocalization, out of any species of tortoise, is when the male is mating...you say he does it alone, when in his hide-box? And he stops when you check on him?

I blush to suggest a possible answer... :p

Oh that is funny! Did anyone see Due Date? If not you should it is so funny. The last post reminds me of a part in it.

I guess you could tell the little dude "Stop that or you'll go blind!", but it didn't work with my son, either...he just smirked and pointed out that I'm the one wearing bifocals. :rolleyes:
