I have a few more questions for caring for our Russian Tortoise baby. First off, he had diarrhea today. He had diarrhea for a day or two about two months ago and it worked itself out, so hoping this will be the case again. I had his stool checked and it was fine. But it made me wonder if I should be giving him hay or some sort of roughage? He only gets a variety of grocery store greens, we live in a cold climate. Unless someone has ideas for growing plants indoors in cold climates? I do give him Mazuri but he only eats it once in awhile, he doesn't seem crazy about it.
Also, everyone says you need to turn his lights off at night so he can sleep...this could be a dumb question, but he sleeps all the time during the day when its light, why do they need darkness to sleep?
He tends to go through periods of being awake more during the day and sleeping most of the day...is that normal? Maybe he's bored? He has a rock to climb on, a log to hide under and two sets of fake plants...he tends to hang out under one fake plant most of the day. Anything else I can do for him? The basking side stays around 95 and he spends most of his time on that end, going to the other end only to eat. He gets soaked about 5 days per week.
