Ok... I went to the show today and fell in love with a little baby red foot! I can’t post pics of him, but I will as soon as they sort out the pic problem! I dealt with Rancho De Tortuga, a dealer out of Texas. The guy seemed like he was on the up and up, and answered my questions correctly based on what I learned here! Other dealers failed actually and their specimens looked haggard.
My little guy/girl was in a small tub with two other baby reds. They had Greeks, Marginateds, Hermanns, and Sulcatas. My new buddy was active, but not stressed, and his colors are really nice and vivid. His shell has a very nice shine to it, and his eyes are perfect as well. He’s used to eating Mazuri tortoise chow and that’s a good thing! It actually eased my mind even more about the transaction!
As soon as we got home, I offered him some romaine, grapes, and tortoise grass mix. He chowed down for a few minutes, then he made a b-line tithe cool side, dug a little, and then covered himself like an oyster! He’s been that way ever since. Jet lag... The struggle is real. He’s exhausted... I’m exhausted... It’s been a long day for both of us... I’m still in awe of the way he mowed through the food! The last time I saw anyone or anything lay waste to a meal like that, it had to be my ex-mother-in-law at thst all you can eat Chinese buffet back in ‘98!
I think I’ll name him “Lunchbox”!!!
