Hello All,
Just a quick question about topsoil. Pre-packaged Organic Topsoil is not available here and driving to the next town is out of the question (its 300 miles away), as is having it shipped here. We do have local topsoil available but it contains peet. I could easily put it in the oven at 350 for 15 min. to steralize it. The question is will the peet be bad to the baby greek tortoises?
There is garden soil is available but I don't know if it is organic.

Thanks for your help, and time.

The topsoil that is in bags is usually peat moss and sand. Grab a shovel and start digging.

you mainly want to avoid the ones with added fertilizers or chemicals.

Ok, let me rephrase this question.
Here in Fairbanks Alaska the topsoil you dig up has peet occuring naturally in it. Here there is tundra ( a moss type of structure) on top of or in place of soil. But all the native soil has peet in it. The place I was thinking of getting the topsoil from is going to dump a frontend loader bucket of topsoil in the back of my truck. So getting is not a problem. the question is: Is naturally occuring peet bad for baby greek tortoises?

Thanks
