So I'm building a new 4x4 enclosure that sharply resembles a greenhouse. My intent is to actually grow edible plants for my sully to eat. What is the safest type of bulb, and what wattage should I choose for for an enclosure of that size? Thanx in advance!

Good luck with this endeavor as my tortoise demolished the lush field of greens I planted for him in his table. I ended up planting the rest of my Testudo Mix seeds outside in a planter box, away from my Tasmanian Devil of a tortoise.

I will tell you that i bought a small set of LED grow lights from Amazon to facilitate the growth of the Testudo Mix, they were only 5 volts and ran off of a USB plug, but they didn't do much for me and I only had a small area planted.

If you're going to start an indoor grow operation, i would keep it away from the living space of your tortoise, and if you want to get grow lights, the cheap ones don't work very well.

Grow lights are not the right spectrum for tortoises. I agree with @Baldy Aeschylus that you should grow your plants in a separate area and not in the tortoise's enclosure.

Some people grow the plants in several trays and then rotate those in and out of the enclosure as they get eaten and trampled. You can move the substrate and sink the tray right in so it is level with the substrate surface.
