I just recently adopted two tortoises. Their shells are not smooth. I am working on getting them set up properly now but want to know if there is anything extra I can do to reduce the pyramiding. They are at least 7 years old already if that makes a difference.

Is the pyramiding of their shells really bad? I just want to get them happy and healthy. ImageUploadedByTortForum1371998614.955395.jpg

Nothing you can do can reduce pyramiding, its irreversible. But good care can make the new growth smooth so it's not as noticeable.
But it isn't bad at all. I'm thinking the break could do with a neaten up though :) have fun raising your tort.

Thanks. I'm slowly working on getting their beaks cleaned up. I don't want to traumatize them.
