Just out of curiosity, what would you do to keep your tortoise warm in a power outage during winter? I live in Maryland and sometimes (though rarely) we get power outages (up to 3 days) after a big winter storm. I'm adopting a red footed tortoise so I want to be prepared in case of an outage in the future. All ideas are appreciated :D

Best case, have a back up generator. Worse case use hot water bottles. In most of the country water is heated with gas and so you can still get hot water when the electricity is out. A 5 gallon jug of hot water in an enclosure with some blankets over it should do the trick.

Those little pocket hand warmer packets can work well to. They makes some that last for 48 hours or more. You can buy a small case of them for about $30.

We have a generator back up system, great piece of mind for both incubation and tortoise warmth!
