So first time tortoise owner 1 being a rescue. I have a Herman's baby which is great and in great health. However I have a 3yo female horsefield and she has risen from hibernation with a very cloudy eye. She had a slightly cloudy eye last year but it seems to clear up. This time it looks alot worse. Any tips for clearing this up or local vets to myself? North West England. Vets might be abit costly and I lost My job just before Christmas so please bare in mind I just want best for toritortoise thanks guys

Hello from Devon and welcome. Our tortoise, Zola, had a similar problem, years ago, and we used Viscotears liquid Gel , which you can get from an ordinary chemist for £3 or £4 - it is intended for humans, but it is fine for tortoises - you squeeze a drop on the eye 2 or 3 times a day for a few days. I think her eye may just be a bit dry - worth a try, anyway. Since then, I wipe Zola's eyes with a damp cotton pad every day, just in case.
Hope this helps

Hello again - I have been wondering how your tortoise's eye is getting on. Zola found it very confusing only being able to see one side of his normal field of vision, so we were relieved when it got better after a few days.

Be sure to give a nice long warm water soak when they first come out.
Hope the meds suggested works. If it doesn't, come back and we can see if something else could help. Keep us posted either way.
