Just use Betadine once, after that the best thing is Nolvasan. Betadine is hard on growing new tissue, but Nolvasan works well for that.

Laura, I am treating an animal for shell rot now also. I debride any rot that wants to come off. I use an orange stick and don't scrape very hard. Then I use Betadine once. But it kills the white blood cells that are needed for regrowth so just use it once, then use Nolvasan. If you have the Clorhexadine full strength you'll want to dilute it with water 20 parts to 1 part Clorhexadine. I keep them dry docked under a warming light all day using the Nolvasan several times then put them back in their habitat and do the same thing tomorrow...HTH

I'd worry about that plastron and be really careful debriding it. But the carapace looks old and healed. Is it soft when you poke it Terry? Use the Betadine once only I'd pat it with sterile gauze. Then I'd do the Nolvasan a buncha times thru out the day. Do you happen to have Nolvasan cream? That would really be good...

Now why can you post the pics I sent to you and they are BIG! and I couldnt?!?!? grrrrrrrrr
She is at the shelter.. I am pretty sure they have Nolvasan. I always forget about that stuff. Its great.
Besides the shell, she seems to be in good weight. Just needs to get out of there.
And I am a rescuer! Have done wildlife rehab since I was 12,, legally.. just not sure I want to get tied down to that again.. I help where I can . and have made changes with how we handle those calls at work. Its not acceptable to me to do nothing. So now I have people. People who know people, who help and transport.. etc.. and check this site out.. www.wildaboutcats.org its not as active anymore.. but just today.. helped re home a serval. :)

Well, first I saved them to my computer's photo program, then I opened them with Irfanview (a free download photo program). In Irfanview I resized them to 1024x768, saved them at that size then deleted the original larger photo. Then I opened my free Photoshop account and uploaded the pictures to Photoshop. I opened a new window, now having two windows open, and pulled up your thread about the Russian tortoise. I went back to photoshop and left-clicked on the "IMG" code under the picture I wanted to copy. Then came back to the forum where I was "responding" to your thread, and right-clicked the mouse. That pastes the picture in my response.

I noticed when I first joined the forum, that if you use the options under the response window for attachments, you only have a small KB usage alloted to you. If you have already posted pictures using the forum's attachment feature it fills up fast and won't allow any more attachments unless you delete some. So its better to use Photoshop or some other photo program for posting the pictures.

I'm sorry Laura, I don't know where I got the idea that the turtle was Terry's. Please accept my apology. I wish you could send that guy up to me...I'd take care of the rot for you.
Did you see if the shelter has Nolvasan cream? I would pack some in the raw spot on the plastron...

I agree the plastron is the place he's (yes a male :D) having trouble. The cream is always the best bet to use.
