My 3 year old aquatic turtle seems to be showing signs of ri ! Appetite is good, swimming, basking more but I got a new platform so not sure. Today I saw him gape and there was slime that came out of his mouth... Which I read is a sure sign! The only herp vet in my area is not available until 2 weeks from now ... I work in a pharmacy and can get medication maybe a children's antibiotic that can be given orally to fight the infection ??? Does anyone know what I can do and what the dosages might be ?? I really don't want him to suffer and it breaks my heart ... Thank you in advance

Give us more on the enclosure. What is the temp of the basking spot and is it a uvb? I'm not sure one gape is something to worry about yet. Maybe @Anthony P can help?

He is in a fifty gallon tank fluval external canister filter with I think 3 stage filtration, water temps at 76 has a large basking platform and both UVB and a basking lamp

I know they do sometimes yawn but I noticed liquid which I think might be mucus coming out of the sides of his mouth after he gaped which is what worries me ... Last week he got his foot stuck in the filter intake tube and could have died, luckily we heard the commotion and got him out on time, he was moving and all but right after was breathing heavy for a little while, I am scared water might have got into his lungs which in turn could be causing the ri symptoms
