Plant ID, Dandelion?

There's a patch of this that grew in the corner of my yard over the winter. It looks a lot like dandelion, but what throws me off is some of the reddish lines in some of the stalks. It also seems to have a bitter smell that the dandelion I grow doesn't have. Is this dandelion or something else?

Looks like one of the Sow thistles - in which case perfectly OK to feed

Yep. Sow thistle. We have the same kind down here. All my torts devour it.
