We are the parents of a 20 year old female sulcata. We love her to death and are not looking to rehome her now. She is not aging out but we are. We’re still able to care for her. But as responsible parents realize that there will come a time when we can no longer care for her. Have been looking for a safe rehoming place now so that she doesn’t end up being euthanized. We have no children to leave her too. Many young people who know her say they will take her. But they have no appreciation about the commitment it takes to be a sulcata parent. Would appreciate all suggestions as to the best way to find a secure home.

Look up Joshua tree reptile haven. They promise a home for life.
Your shelled companion would be in very safe hands with these guys❤️it’s good to think about these things, many folks put thoughts like this to one side, then their animal ends up in an unfortunate predicament, having plans in place will definitely give you all peace of mind🐢💚

Thank you for the feedback. I did do some follow up on this after Four-Toed Edward suggested them. I am in Florida and Joshua Tree Reptile Haven is in California. I’m going to keep it in mind and continue to look for a sanctuary closer to us. If we don’t find something closer, I will go out to check them out. I so appreciate this forum. You know, when they’re babies and you’re still young, you don’t necessarily focus on your own aging out and what you’ll do to protect them. Fortunately, God willing we still have some time.

Thank you for the information. I did check out Joshua’s Tree Reptile Haven. We are in Georgia/Florida and California is a good distance away. I plan to continue to search close by but have taken this recommendation seriously. I really appreciate your responding to this post. We haven’t aged out at least we don’t think so but I don’t want to wait much longer to make this critical arrangement. Even if we’re not ready to give her up and want to know we have a plan.
