I recently went down to a local pond at a place called Indian Park to take some pictures.
No sooner did I get to the edge of the pond when I saw a head poking out.
At first I thought it was a snake, until it hauled itself onto a tree limb.
It was a painted turtle. You can see it where the tree limb meets the water in this picture.
Here's a close up of him. No doubt a male with those long front claws!
As I looked a little farther down, I saw yet another turtle catching some rays!
Then I found these 3 in a very shallow area.
Actually, I wasn't there to look for turtles, but I was there to look for this Momma duck and her babies.
The week before I found them walking through the nearby Walmart parking lot.
For some reason ducks hang out there and at a Wendy's restaurant.
This Momma decided to build her nest there and hatch her eggs.
I helped them avoid a storm water grate and guided them down to a drainage ditch to avoid any more hazards and cars.
I wanted to see if they made it to this pond OK and was happy to find them there.
I was also amazed to see how many babies she had with her!
