Nice pics, cute tort. If you add some humidity to his enclosure, you can start him to growing smooth and make the pyramiding looks less. Please read the threads at the bottom of my post. Also I think I saw sand? Sand can cause impaction. Most either don't use sand or mix it with coconut coir or other substrates.

he is quite smooth, no pyramiding at all

and his original owner had him on that, i QUICKLY removed it.
