I have posted the same about a year ago, but got no reply. Is a diapause period recommended for pancake tortoise eggs?

Some people have found they had trouble hatching their pancake eggs, and that a diapause worked for them. It does seem that is the minority, however, I would say that most of the pancake breeders do not diapause.

It appears that pancakes in some parts of their range do lay eggs that go through a diapause, while in other parts of the range - no diapause. So perhaps some pancakes in the US are from those different parts of the range. No telling anymore where the pancakes we have here in the US came from and are like leopard tortoises in that respect.

I am experimenting with this now. I have some eggs I have diapaused and others I put straight into the incubator. We'll see if one produces better results.

Pancakes eggs are the one species I really cannot figure out exact incubation protocol. Eggs in the same container in the incubator can take anywhere from 100 to 240 days to hatch - and some don't develop at all. Its frustrating to try to figure out if dealing with low fertility, or a need to adjust the incubation protocol. So the experimentation goes on...

Thanks for the reply Mark. Maybe I'll join you with some experimentation and post if/when I have some data to report.
