hi im a newbie im looking to get either a horsfield or a herman tortoise and wonder if anyone can give me tips on which would be best to keep and also whats the best type of enclosure to keep it in and what would be its main diet and any other tips i would like to know as much as i can before going out and getting one thanks

Hello Dee, I don't have a Russian and I just got a Hermanns and these smaller tortoises have really impressed me with there personality. I think either one would be good choice to have..

I think that the Russians are less finicky as far as setup requirements..

they both stay small
In my personal opinion I think russians adjust better but that is just my opinion.
Personality wise they are both great tortoises, though I think russians are a little more outgoing again just personal opinion.
similar diets, so no help there.
