Hello, I have recently purchased a Horsefield (Russian) Tortoise called Tim!
I have been told lots of different things about how long I should keep lamps on!
12 hours UBV?
What light do I keep on overnight or shall I turn them off completely!
They are set to come on at 9 in the morning and off 9 at night is this right?

welcome to the forum! 12 hours is fine for the light on. turn off the light at night, keeping them on during the night can damage his eyes. turning the light on and off at 9am and 9pm is fine. i have some questions to make sure the lights are correct :p whats the basking spot temps? whats the cool side temps? are you using a coil bulb? whats the cage humidity?

Hi Al, and welcome to the Forum!

I have my lights on a timer and they come on at 7a and go off at 7p. Unless your house gets very cold at night, your Russian tortoise doesn't need any night time light or heat.

Could you post a picture of your set up. It may help members to give you suggestions. What is the temperature of the room that your table is in?

Beautiful tort. Hope. Your temps have come up. Depending on your set up, changes should be easy enough to get it adjusted.

The spiral-shaped bulb is harmful to tortoises' eyes and should not be used.

If you want to warm up the habitat, you'll have to cover it.

I was told via the pet shop this is the correct lighting ? I've read some many different things, what shall I cover it up with?
