Hello, just introuncing ourselves. We are Flirts Mom's from Mississippi. Flirt is almost 7 years old and we have had her for 6 years. Flirt is an African Spirthigh is what we were told. We are not very knowledgeable about her at all. We have kept her in a large aquarium and now it's time to build her her new forever home outside. We are here to learn as much as possible about and for our girl.
Looking forward,
Flirts Mom's

Hello and welcome.

Can we get a pic of Flirt, so we can be sure of the species and get you the correct care advice?

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

There are two different species that carry a similar nick-name as the one you were given for Flirt - The 'spur thigh', or Greek tortoise, and the 'African spurred tortoise', or Sulcata. The Greek and the Sulcata are cared for differently. So we'll need to see a picture of your tortoise to be sure what species it is.

That is indeed a sulcata, aka African spurred tortoise.

Here is care info for them:

It looks like your tortoise might be large enough to live outside full time, but I'm not sure about how long and how cold your winters are there.

Here is how I house them outdoors here:
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/enclosure-expansion.38788/

And for nighttime, I use these to keep them warm and safe:

http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/double-door-night-box.129054/
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/my-best-night-box-design-yet.66867/

The main thing to understand is that this is a tropical species and they need to be kept warm 24/7/365.

One of myour questions was gonna be what can I plant in Flirts Home for her to graze on. It was answered here. Thanks for the reply.
