Hi

Please can I ask for help? I've just had a baby Horsefield hatchling bought for me and I've bought the vivarium with baking lamp and uvb tube however I had it on Monday and it doesn't appear to be eating. It's had a soak every day and its doing poos but won't eat.

I'm worried it's too cold at night so left the basking light on one night but then read that's bad for them. What should I do? Get a heat mat?

Your advice is appreciated

Jo

Hi! Welcome to the forum!

Here is a bit of info:

What are your day time and night time temps. Basking temps? And what gauges are you using to measure the temps? How about humidity? Do you have a temperature gun? If not I highly recommend getting one.
If you take a photo of your enclosure and tort we may be able to spot a problem if there is one.

We should make sure everything is right and we can help with that but also it's pretty normal for a tort to hide and not eat while getting adjusted to its new surroundings.

Oh and your tort needs it to be dark at night to get a good night's sleep. There are better ways to keep the warm at night. Check out ceramic heat emitters .
