New Hermanns

Hi everyone... I just got an adult male Hermanns from Tortoise Supply. I am used to my cherryhead red foot, so I have a couple of questions.
1. What strength uv light should I have?
2. I know thst Hermanns are herbivores, but I see that some people feed theirs Mazuri. I understand that Mazuri has lots of protein. Yes to Mazuri or no?

You could use something like this...BUT, it will depend on the size and lay out of the enclosure....you don't want to bake the torts eyes/body if the enclosure is smaller right now????

Yes, Mazuri is fine, just a couple times a week should be good...

I agree... I love the Powersun bulbs. Generally the 100 w is excellent, as the 160 seems to be very warm unless you happen to have the right step for it.

Yes mazuri is gret for them. It is especially made for tortoises and doesn't carry the large protein amounts that dog food has or that was presumed a few years back. You could also try the zoomed tortoise grassland diet, not forest though. Local pet shops usually sell it. Also, I have not used the red sticks, but I would like to at some point. I know "coastal" on here used to sell it, but I'm pretty sure other members and reptile sites sell it too

Mazuri is more than fine for Hermanns. Mine get it 4 times a week and pounce on it every time lol
