Found these guys digging out of there hole! I am so excited. Though I am used to rasing adult three toeds in an outside pen. What do I need to get to raise these guys in harmony inside for awhile? TURTLES.jpg

Did you have a nesting pair outside and you found these in their enclosure or did you find these coming out somewhere on your property?

I have an enclosure outside. One of the turtles is seriously premature. I am worried what should I do?

I would suggest an inside enclosure so you can regulate the temp and humidity. Some nice dirt/moss, few places to hide, plenty of water so they can drink and soak. Calcium powder on their food (ie meal worms, pill bugs, etc, etc)

Baby box turtles, being so small, dehydrate very quickly. Set them up in an indoor habitat, with a substrate that you can moisten - even dirt from outside is ok. They like to hide and feel more secure when they are hidden, so provide plenty of either plants or hiding places for them. Soak them every day. They'll need to be kept warm, and if you don't want a light over them, then buy a CHE (ceramic heat emitter).

Keep a constant eye on them too. A good, moist ground would be nice for them, with some nice pools to bathe and drink from. Also make sure they have somewhere to hide, like a half log or something. Hope this helped.

Also- make sure they have a balanced diet. I had a baby once that had too much calcium, and it's shell got all out of whack.

I had 1 hatch premi before and it didn't make it :( it lasted 2 days and that was it. Hopefully since your guy is walking it'll be fine. Just get a big rubbermiad container fill it with moss and coco coir to keep them nice and wet i would recomend a heat light of some sort as well. As far as food, find the smallest mealworms/garden worms you can get since they are more carnivorus when they are young and the squirming will help intise them. GOOD LUCK :D

I have a care sheet that I give my customers for baby box turtles. PM me your email and I will forward it over. Has suggestions for substrate, food, where to buy small bugs on line, etc.

I had a lot of luck with small gut-loaded crickets when mine was a hatchling (I fed in a separate container though, just to make sure there weren't any 'leftovers' hanging around!).
