We just got a new Hermanns and I wanted to get another to put with him. We have a very large enclosure so they both will have plenty of room. My question is how long do they have to be quarantined from each other? Thanks!
6 months is generally good. But getting a second is really not a good idea. It's hard to only have only one tortoise because they are so charming and addictive, but they really prefer to live in solitary splendor. They become territorial and one gets bullied and fails to thrive. It's easy to fail to recognize the signs. One is the best number. Two is the worst.
If you are new to tortoise keeping, slow down and wait a year before you think about getting another.
